Uses and gratifications theory
Uses and gratifications is a popular theory for understanding media communication. It is more focussed on the consumer that the actual media and it implies that audience members are not passive but take an active role in integrating media into their own lives and that the audience choose the media that meet their needs much as if I wanted cheering up or was in a good mood and wanted to keep it that way I would choose to watch one of my favourite comedies like 21 Jump Street or Role Models or if i was in a mood to just watch a good film or a film i enjoy i'd watch a movie by my favorite movie makers such as Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher or Chris Nolan.
